2026 Clinics

Drop-in Skating Clinics 2026

Throughout April 2026, NSRD will host a series of drop-in skating clinics. Providing drop-in opportunities allows new skaters to test out the waters, and it also helps prepare folks for tryouts (June 17th) and Space Camp, which is part of the process for getting drafted onto a competitive home team (see FAQs for more info). Skating clinics are open to all skill levels, with no obligation to try out; so even if you are only interested in skating recreationally, clinics are a great place to get started!

Clinic participants generally have a broad range of skating skills and abilities from never-skated-before to former derby players, though clinics tend to bring in lots of new faces! Because of the range of experience, we cover lots of skills from roller skating basics to derby-specific pack drills. We always have multiple trainers ready to help break it down for new skaters or amp things up for those coming out of Satellites that are ready for a new challenge. And because this is a space tailored for skaters to try roller derby with low stakes, it’s also a great time to have your friends or family come try it out with you!!

2026 Tryouts Process

Mark your calendars! Tryouts for 2026 will be on the evening of Wednesday, June 17th! If you are interested in joining a competitive home team with North Star Roller Derby, you must try out and be invited to Space Camp, the summer training program, to be eligible for the fall draft. We recommend that you attend clinics and Launch Pad: Tryout Prep(a six-week tryout prep course starting in May) to prepare for tryouts. Stay tuned for Launch Pad registration coming soon!

How do I join a competitive home team?

In order to join a home team, where you will bout like this next season at Quincy Hall, you must be invited to and complete Space Camp. To do that, we recommend skaters attend as many clinics as they can. Then we have a six-week program designed to prepare skaters for tryouts, called Launch Pad: Tryout Prep. Clinics and Launch Pad are optional, but all skaters who want to join a home team must try out and complete Space Camp (summer training program) to be eligible for the fall draft.  Details below.

Launch Pad: Tryout Prep
  • After clinics are done, NSRD will run a six-week tryout preparation course called Launch Pad: Tryout Prep. (In previous years we called this Space Camp 1, but it’s been rebranded!)

  • All skill levels are welcome to register for Launch Pad, regardless of your intent to try out, but this course is aimed at getting skaters ready for tryouts and contact drills that will be the focus of Space Camp.

  • More details and registration coming soon!

2026 NSRD Tryouts
  • Skaters who want to join one of the four home teams that bout at Quincy Hall should plan to try out on Wednesday, June 17th!

  • NSRD tryouts are open to skaters of all experience & skill levels, though we recommend coming in with as much experience as you can!

  • At tryouts, skaters will run through a series of drills, similar to an intense clinics or Satellites practice, and home team captains will make assessments based on things like skating skills, hustle, endurance, and coachability in order to determine who will make it into Space Camp.

2026 Space Camp
  • Space Camp is NSRD’s intensive summer training program, which runs from June until the end of September.

  • In order to join a home team, you must be invited to Space Camp after tryouts, meet all requirements, and get drafted.

    • Those who meet all requirements during Space Camp, including 50% attendance (1 practice per week average), volunteer hours, and skills assessments, will be placed into a draft pool.

    • Captains will draft new skaters from that pool to fill out rosters on the home teams at the end of Space Camp.

    • Skaters are not guaranteed a spot on a home team for meeting requirements, though there are usually enough roster spots for most or all skaters to join a team.
